Dental Care and Cleanings

At Eagle Animal Hospital, we understand that a healthy mouth is vital to your pet’s overall health and well-being. Just like humans, pets can suffer from dental diseases that can lead to serious health issues if left untreated. Our team is dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care tailored to your pet's needs.

Why Dental Health Matters

Preventing Dental Diseases
Periodontal disease is one of the most common conditions in pets, affecting a significant percentage of dogs and cats by the age of three. Regular dental cleanings help prevent tartar buildup and infections.

Systemic Health
Poor dental health can lead to bacteria entering the bloodstream, potentially affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys. Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for your pet's overall health.

Pain-Free Living
Dental issues can cause significant pain for pets, affecting their appetite, behavior, and quality of life. Routine dental care can keep your pet comfortable and happy.

Dental Exams

A comprehensive oral examination is the first step in assessing your pet’s dental health. Our veterinarians check for signs of disease, including tartar buildup, gum disease, and lesions during every wellness exam. Regular exams help catch issues early on. If you suspect your pet is suffering from dental disease, a medical exam can be scheduled in between annual wellness exams to address these issues.

Dental Procedures

Digital Dental X-rays
We utilize digital X-ray technology to get a complete view of your pet’s dental health, including below the gum line. This is done as the first step of your pets’ dental procedure as it allows us to spot issues like root infections or bone loss that may not be visible during a standard exam.

Dental Cleanings
Professional dental cleanings involve ultrasonic scaling to remove tartar and plaque, followed by polishing to smooth the teeth surfaces. This procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure your pet's comfort and safety.

Extractions
When teeth are damaged, loose, or infected, extractions may be necessary. Our veterinary team is skilled in performing extractions with minimal discomfort and pain management, ensuring a smooth recovery process.
